PRD 571: Prep For Ma Ed Test-10Pdp

The Communication and Literacy Skills test consists of two subtests: reading and writing. The reading subtest contains multiple-choice items and word meaning (vocabulary) items. The writing subtest contains four sections: written summary, written composition, grammar and usage, and written mechanics. Areas covered include the comprehension and analysis of readings; development of ideas in essay form on specific topics; outlining and summarizing; interpretation of tables and graphs; and mastery of vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics. No textbooks are required but handouts and booklet will be provided.

PRD 572: MTEL Found of Read (Test 90)

Prerequisite(s): none
An MTEL preparation class is available to support teachers, and future teachers, who are planning to take the MTEL Foundations of Reading Test # 90. This class will provide support for students as they review for the assessment in a collegial group. Key content areas of the exam and test taking strategies will be covered during three class meetings. Sample questions will be discussed and practical approaches to developing essay responses will be taught. It is recommended, but not required, that students obtain a copy of the book Beating Them All! by Chris Nicholas Boosalis and bring it to class.

VPA 500: Differential Learning/Teaching - Topic: Special Needs: K-12 Arts Class

Prerequisite(s): none
This course will focus on what art teachers need to know about their students and what special needs they may have. Rather than solving all problems we will look at strategies for creating open-ended lessons that will document not just the destination but also the journey. Participants will be asked to share past experiences, pose possible problems and look for better solutions in working with special needs populations in both integrated and self-contained classes.
